Lachneophysis rougeoti Quentin & Villiers, 1978

ℹ  Information: Lachneophysis rougeoti, is a very rare species endemic to the mountains of southern Ethiopia. Reddish brown to blackish brown in color with distinct three pits on the pronotum. Females in particular are very hairy.

First caught in the mountains (ca. 2000 m a.s.l. ) P. C. Rougeot in 1973 and described by Quentin & Villiers in 1978. Since then very rarely caught.

A larger series of pieces was collected by Robert Beck in 2006 in Bale Mountains National Park. The pieces were collected exclusively on the yellow-flowering bushes of Hypericum revolutum at an altitude of about 3000 m a.s.l. Adlbauer (2008) states that flight activity has not been observed so far, probably due to low temperatures at high altitudes.

Body length: 32 - 46 mm
Peak activity:  (April), November - December

⚠  Remarks: The species probably occurs mainly during the secondary rainy season and outside the main growing season (November to December).
At our newly discovered location in Ilubabor province, all the pieces were attracted to the light trap at night, despite the low temperature and high humidity.
