Information: Jekelius intermedius, was described from the vicinity of the city of Otranto in southeastern Italy (Puglia province) in 1839 by Costa originally as the taxon Scarabaeus intermedius. Non-flying specie, polyphagous, mainly coprophagous.
The beetles inhabit dry habitats with sandy or calcareous subsoil. They occur both in sparse forests, often with vegetation of Mediterranean oak species, so we can find them in open habitats, especially pastures, where they find a sufficient amount of food sources. They are active in wetter periods of the year, i.e. especially in early spring and late autumn.
