Information: Heliocopris gigas, was described by Linnaeus in 1758 from Egypt originally as Scarabaeus gigas. It is currently more common in suitable habitats of the Arabian Peninsula than in northeastern Africa.
Body length: 37 - 60 mm
Peak activity: January - December (depends on region)
Remarks: Heliocopris gigas is found only in the south of Oman, Dhofar province on the border with Yemen. It looks for seasonal pastures where it is active only in the monsoon season.
