ℹ  Information: Codocera ferruginea, is a widespread rare species that was originally described as Lethrus ferrugineus by Eschscholtz in 1818. The species has an oval body, sandy yellow to rusty color. The whole body is covered with long light hairs, which are longest on the sides of the body. Rafters with grooves, limbs with prominent teeth. Males have significantly enlarged mandibles.

Peak activity: May - August (depends on region)

⚠  Remarks: Very rare habitat-bound species mainly on steppe loess localities, less often on habitats with a sandy substrate. It flies after sunset in the summer months.

🔎  Difference between Codocera sp. and Ochodaeus sp. :
Codocera ferruginea differs from Ochodaeus sp. a broad head (the eyes are much further apart), a more elongated shape, relatively longer limbs and, above all, much longer body hair. Males have significantly enlarged mandibles.

ℹ  Information: Codocera ferruginea, is a subspecies distributed only in two provinces of China, which was described by Balthasar in 1936 from the locality of 'Chi feng hsien' (Prov. Tschili).
