Information: Ceroplesis ferrugator was described from the Cape of Good Hope locality in South Africa by Fabricius in 1787. A common species of dry savanna throughout the distribution area in the southern part of Africa.

Information: Ceroplesis ferrugator marginalis, is recognized by some collectors as a valid subspecies. It was described as a variation from the area of "Caffraria" by Fåhraeem in 1873. A now invalid area name belonging to what is now the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.
